Why was the website created? |
There were a few reasons for creating the
Henderson Road website. Like some of our neighbors, my husband and I had questions about local community issues
and where to find the information; Strengthening the
communications network for safety and security awareness in our neighborhood
has been a common interest. Personally, learning about web design/administration
has always been an interest of mine, and I wanted to make this my first
official website project.

How was the website name chosen? |
For a website address easy to remember
and representing the area where we live, hendersonroad.com seemed like the
right choice.

What is the difference between the
website and Neighborhood Watch Program? |
The
website’s purpose is to give homeowners and neighbors in our community a
central location for communicating urgent news, raising awareness of important
issues and events, and helping neighbors with similar interests contact each
other.
To receive recognition by the DeKalb
Police Department as having an active Neighborhood Watch Program, at least
75% of the number of homes in the community (homeowners/streets interested) must sign up to participate in the program.
One of the purposes of the website is to
alert the community of suspicious activity. Whether the Neighborhood
Watch Program is officially active or inactive for all streets, we should
still watch out for each other.

How is urgent news, such as a
Neighborhood Watch alert,
communicated to homeowners without computer and Internet
access? |
Whether the
Neighborhood Watch Program is officially active or inactive for all streets,
we should still watch out for each other. Neighbors without computer
or Internet access may want to ask a neighbor to give them a courtesy phone call when
new notifications are posted. |

Can anyone view the website
and
submit information? How are email addresses used? |
The website is available for viewing on
the world wide web / Internet.
Where appropriate, guidelines are
provided to ensure timely updates of information to the website.
There are a couple of
instances where homeowners may volunteer their email address.
Examples: If the Neighborhood Watch isn’t officially active,
homeowners may want to
receive alert notifications submitted through the website mailbox.
Homeowners give their email address on the Discussion Forum, Contractor
Referral, or in a news article. |

Is there a cost associated with the
website? |
In researching web hosting
companies, we considered using the free service offers that are paid for
through website visitors seeing pop up type ads. Not wanting to deter
people from visiting the site, we chose a service with a reasonable monthly
fee and that fit our requirements. Initially funding the website
ourselves, we hope in time that if the website serves its purpose and
usefulness that donations or sponsors will help defray
the web hosting costs to break even. Some homeowners without computer or Internet access
may be interested in a monthly or quarterly printed newsletter. For
example, professionals and
companies generating business as a result of the Contractor Referral List
may be interested in helping with the web hosting costs and any future
newsletter printing costs.
