Subject: Inquiry about GA Stimulus State Project Number 008592

Hello Georgia DOT team,

My neighbors and I are interested in learning more about the traffic intersection improvements in the DeKalb County Northlake area (State Project Number 008592).  I searched your website and found the following document  http://www.dot.ga.gov/informationcenter/gastimulus/Documents/Reports/1587/1587-7-09.pdf  [see page15]  Any information that you could share is appreciated.  For example, one of my neighbors asked for more information about the cameras installed on the new traffic lights by Henderson Mill Elementary.

Best Regards,

Jenni

Below is the summary from Georgia Department of Transportation:

The cameras are being used for vehicle detection to change the signals.  They will not be used for red-light enforcement.  (Executive Assistant to Chief Engineer)

The cameras are being used for vehicle detection for the signal.  We use them sometimes instead of the loops in the pavement.  They are typically used when we do not have enough right of way to install loops which is probably the case at the school.  (Project Manager)

Henderson Road Hosts Disney and Hollywood

Lights!  Camera!  Action!  Just in case you hadn’t heard, our own Henderson Park was the movie set during the week of 3/21/2011 for the filming of the Walt Disney movie "The Odd Life of Timothy Green."  Henderson Road neighbors reported electronic traffic signs along Henderson Road and white tents, crew equipment, fall foliage props at Henderson Park (soccer field).  Here's the movie's Press Release  (U.S. Release Date August 2012 - movie trailer - Learn more at Disney's site.)

  • Henderson Mill Gridlock

If you travel weekday mornings on Henderson Mill Road, you'd noticed the change in traffic since October 19th, 2009.  Observations from homeowners traveling from Evans Road and Henderson Road directions believed it was related to the Evans Road traffic light.  On 10/26/09, a report was made with the Traffic Engineering Dept. of the DeKalb County Roads Division.  They would assess the issue within 5-7 business days.  The engineer and tech would check the programming and determine if the cause was programming  or equipment related.  A resolution would occur by end of week.  Click here for map.  On 10/29/09 morning, homeowners reported seeing county reps monitoring the traffic situation.  Resolution follows:

    From: Glover, Ben
    Sent: Wednesday, November 18, 2009
    To: jenni@hendersonroad.com
    Subject: Repair Followup

[Jenni] this is a follow up to our conversation on or about November 13, 2009 regarding repairs.  The repair activity that was centered on the reported signal problems at Evans Road @ Henderson Mill Road was reportedly due to a stuck pedestrian pushbutton which adversely affected signal phasing times.  The solution involved repairing the defective pushbutton and checking the intersection for proper operations.

    Mr. Glover,

I really appreciate the detailed explanation of the cause and resolution.  I’d like to thank you and your staff for promptly responding to the traffic light issue.  The traffic flow is significantly better!

    Best Regards,

    Jenni

Concerning Rezoning of Les Jardins Apartment

  • Demolition - Corner of Henderson Mill Rd. and Dunnington Circle

Henderson Mill Road neighbor reports 1/14/09:  "The corner house at Henderson Mill Rd. and Dunnington Cir., that has been empty for several years, is about to be demolished.  After the apartments were built behind that house, the run off from them went into the basement of this house.  The house became moldy and uninhabitable.  The owner has been fighting with the county ever since.  It is our understanding that the county finally settled with her and plan to tear it down sometime in the next few weeks."

On December 18, 2007 the BOC approved an ordinance accepting and appropriating a Flood Mitigation Assistance program award from the Federal Emergency Management (FEMA), into a new Stormwater CIP account, for the purchase of five flood prone homes in District One (includes Dunnington Circle).  (Research by Henderson Mill neighbors with Commissioner Boyer's office)
