Here's a brief excerpt about the project.
Telling the Story of Our Community!
The 2005-2006 school year launched a new archival and research project for
the students at Henderson Middle School. A committee of dedicated
teachers and the Henderson Project Booster Club working collaboratively
with the Henderson Middle Media Center and the DeKalb County Historical
Society are actively pursuing this ambitious project. Our booster
club is working diligently to raise money needed to fund the project so
please consider helping us to reach our goal.
Our mission is to tell the story of our community for the past, present
and future by utilizing student initiatives and community resources to
fulfill our dream.
Our Henderson Project Committee members with Barbara M. Heller,
Teacher-Librarian, Co-Chair, Madelyn C. Foard, 6th grade Social Studies,
Co-Chair are working with our Booster Club (Mary Gowing, President) to
create this research-based archival legacy to our community."
Our Vision
DeKalb County's Henderson Middle School became the heart of the Lakeside
Cluster when it became the sole designated middle school for this high
school in the 2004-2005 school year. During this transitional time, it
became evident that our district needs to establish a stronger sense of
community. Without a cohesive bond to serve as a foundation, this area
could easily lose its distinctiveness; much has already been lost in the
process of development. Consequently, we are launching an ambitious
project to tell the varied stories of our local community's history so it
can be preserved, cherished, and passed on to future generations. It is
our intent to gather, identify and collect the many Henderson stories. Using a broad variety of resources and technologies, we intend to promote
a sense of pride that will embrace our diverse population. As the hub, or
heart, of the community, we intend to create a spirit that will transcend
our different origins and unite us. The Henderson Project, therefore,
envisions a community that celebrates our heritage and anticipates our
legacy.
Additional Notes (from Jenni):
If you've recently moved into the area or called Henderson Road home for
20-30+ years, "The Henderson Road Project" is an excellent way to learn
more about our community and share what you remember from times past.

Also,
Vanishing Georgia
is an interesting website that I recently discovered. In the "Search for"
field, try key words such as:
"Henderson Mill"
"Tucker, DeKalb County, Georgia"
